Adding a new Product

Note that all images below are taken from a standard Plone website - your website may have a different look, so the images are only a guide, they may not be exact.

Your website comes with the ability to add Products - so people can buy from you! We set some up for you, but here is how to add new Products as you expand what you sell.

Note - the examples below use 'DMA Product' as the name of the Product entry - your setup will generally use your company's initials instead of DMA - in the instructions, we have used xx as the initials.

1. Log in to your website with the Login Name and Password that we gave you, if you are not already logged in. (You will see a Log In section at the bottom of the Navigation on the left if you are not logged in). Instructions are here.

2. Navigate to Products.

3. Click the Add new... button.

4. Select xx Product from the list.

5. Enter the Title of the new Product.

6. Add a Description if you want.

This will appear when people hold the mouse over the title in the Navigation.

7. Follow the instructions here to add an image to use for the Product.

8. Add the image to the Product, using the instructions here.

9. Untick the Display attachments download box.

10. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

11. NOTE - the Product will be created as Private.

This means that you can see it, but nobody else can. This allows you to create the Product and THEN let the world see it, when it is ready.

12. As these should not appear in normal Navigation, hide them from the navigation list.

a. Click Edit.

b. Click Settings.

c. Click Exclude from navigation.

d. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

13. Make the Product shippable, so that people can buy it.

a. Click the Actions button.

b. Click Make Shippable Product.

c. Depending on what sort of Products you have, you will see some or all of these entries. Enter all values from this list that appear on your Product.

1. If you use Product Codes within your organisation, enter the value you use for this Product in Product Code. In most cases, you can leave this blank.

2. Enter the Price for this Product.

3. Enter a unique code for this Product in Product SKU. This is how the Product will be identified when you are sent details of orders.

4. Add the approximate weight of an individual unit of this Product in kgs in Shipping Weight. So, if it is a machine, enter the weight of the machine. If it is a box of paper clips, enter the weight of the box of paper clips, etc. This is used to calculate the shipping cost - or give your customers an idea of how much this will cost.

5. Leave the Weight Unit as kgs.

d. Click the Activate button at the bottom of the screen.

14. Edit the Product if you are using Product Categories.

a. Edit the Product.

b. Click Categorization in the links below Edit xx Product.

c. If the Product Category you are looking for has already been used, it will appear in the left column under the Existing Categories heading - just click to select it. If this is a new Product Category, type the value in New Categories on the right.

d. The other values on this screen can be left blank.

e. Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

15. When you have finished setting up the new Product and are ready for it to be seen by everyone else:

a. Navigate to the page.

b. Click the State: Private button.

c. Click Publish.

Now your new Product will be seen by everyone else.
