Editing or changing your Home page

As part of designing your website, we created your Home page. However, you will need to keep this refreshed and updated, so your customers have reasons to keep coming back!

Note that all images below are taken from a standard Plone website - your website may have a different look, so the images are only a guide, they may not be exact.

1. Log in to your website with the Login Name and Password that we gave you, if you are not already logged in. (You will see a Log In section at the bottom of the Navigation on the left if you are not logged in). Instructions are here.

2. Edit your Home page.

a. Click Edit on your Home page. Click the Home tab first if you are not on the Home page.

3. If you want to change the Title, you can do this by following the instructions here.

4. If you want to change the Description, use the instructions here.

The main part that you will want to change is the Body Text section. This contains most of the information that visitors to your website see, so this is where most changes will be made.

5. To change just the words, follow the instructions here.

6. To make text Bold, follow the instructions here.

7. To make text Italic, follow the instructions here.

8. To make text Bold AND Italic, follow the instructions here.

9. You can change the justification of the text. This means whether the text is lined up against the left, against the right, or centred within the space available.

The instructions are here.

10. You can add or remove bullets and numbering from text. Follow the instructions here.

11. You can also set up a definition list on your page. You might want to use this to explain any technical terms that you use.

The instructions can be found here.

12. You can move entire paragraphs in and out (indent and outdent text), to make your page easier to read. Find the instructions here.

13. You can add images (pictures) to your pages, to make them more interesting to read. Follow the instructions here.

14. You can link to other pages within your website.

You might want to let everyone know about a new service that you are offering, which you describe on the Networking Services page of your website. So you write about the new Networking Services on your Home page, but you want people to be able to quickly jump to that page to look at the details so you add a link.

Find the instructions here.

15. You can add links to pages on other people's websites.

You might want to link to a Wikipedia page on a topic that relates to your business, or to link to an associate's web page. The instructions to follow are here.

16. If you have really long pages, you can use anchors to help visitors move around more easily.

Generally, you will add headings to the sections in your page and then add a set of links to the headings at the top (or bottom) of the page, although you can also add links to other types of text.

Note that you can link to a heading, subheading, literal, discreet, pull-quote, call-out and clear floats.

Follow the instructions here.

17. If you need information to be laid out in a set way, you can use a Table. Find the instructions here.

18. If you know how to use HTML, you can use HTML itself to control what is displayed more strictly. However, we do not expect most of our customers to use this button - it can lead to more issues than it solves! Follow the instructions here.

19. You can easily change lines into headings or other formats. Follow the instructions found here.

20. Sometimes the section of screen available for editing your page is too small. In this case, use the Zoom function to edit the page using your full screen. The instructions are here.

21. Don't forget to save your changes!
