Editing or changing the URL used to access a page or folder

Note that all images below are taken from a standard Plone website - your website may have a different look, so the images are only a guide, they may not be exact.

If you change the title on a page, or copy and paste an existing entry, it will end up with the wrong detail visible in the URL - the part that appears in the address bar at the top of your browser. This could cause confusion - to you or to people looking at your website, as well as being bad for search engines reading your website. Here is the process to change it.

1. Log in to your website with the Login Name and Password that we gave you, if you are not already logged in. (You will see a Log In section at the bottom of the Navigation on the left if you are not logged in). Instructions are here.

2. Navigate to the page or folder ABOVE the one you want to change. So if you want to change the Consulting and Implementation page in the Services folder, navigate to the Services folder. If you want to change a top level folder, navigate to Home.

3. Click Contents.

4. Select the item that needs to change. Generally, this is the one you just edited or created a copy of.

5. Click the Rename button.

6. Change the Short Name to match the title. Replace any spaces with dashes/hyphens. Remove any punctuation, like / or ' or , as these cannot be used in this area.

7. Click the Rename All button at the bottom of the screen.

Now, when you open the page or folder, you will see the correct name.
